Anonymity and Glassdoor go hand in hand today, as it has been since our founding more than 15 years ago. Recently, we’ve been asked if this is still true now that we’ve added Community to our services. So, let’s clear this up.
You can count on reviews, ratings, and salary information posted by Glassdoor users to be anonymous, as they’ve always been. In fact, we have and continue to fight for our users' right to remain anonymous behind the scenes as they share their authentic experiences on our platform.
We also provide options to control your anonymity in Glassdoor’s Community, where you can connect with other professionals through real conversations about work and life. We built Community so our users can post anonymously with their job title or employer name, or with their full name.
In Glassdoor Community, you control your identity
To enable Community, we ask users to share their name, job title, and company with us. This information helps users seamlessly engage however they choose. Glassdoor never changes how users present themselves in any post in Community; users always get to decide how they want to appear when they post content. Today, approximately one-third of users use their full name when posting.
Building trust by making sure you’re really you
A community is only as strong as its members. To ensure that our Community spaces are safe, productive, and trustworthy, we verify the identity of everyone on Glassdoor. This level of accountability attracts people with genuine intentions and guards against fraud or bad behavior. It also helps serve as a powerful deterrent against trolls and users who might abuse anonymity to spread misinformation, harass others, or engage in other toxic behaviors in violation of our Community Guidelines.
We securely confirm our users’ identities behind the scenes and we do not share any personal details publicly or with employers. When users know that their fellow Community members’ identities have been verified, they can feel more confident engaging in authentic discussions with real professionals.
We’re in it for the belonging
As the world of worklife rapidly changes, we’re seeing new expectations around workplace transparency. Since we launched Community last summer, we’ve seen millions of professionals connect across careers, companies, and industries, improving their lives at work in myriad ways. We invite you to check it out for yourself and see what anonymity — with the assurance of verification — can do for you, your well-being, career, and sense of belonging.
