Elements of a certified medical assistant cover letter

Here are the elements you can include in a certified medical assistant cover letter:

Contact information

The first thing on your cover letter can be your contact information so that a hiring manager can quickly contact you with any follow-up questions. Many people have headers that state the contact information they can use on all their application materials. This is a good idea because your contact information must be the same across all materials so the hiring manager doesn't get confused. You can include your name, phone number, email address and the city and state where you live. You don't need to include your exact address, but the general location of where you live can help a hiring manager understand if you can commute to their office. Salutation

Cover letters should follow a traditional letter format. They start with a salutation where you address the hiring manager. If you can find the hiring manager's name, you can include it in the salutation. You may be able to find the hiring manager's name in the job description where you learned about the open position. Sometimes the job description lists the contact information or application directions. You can research the hospital or facility to find any human resources contacts. Including the hiring manager's name can imply professionalism and attention to detail, making you distinguishable from other candidates. If you can't find the hiring manager's name, you can start your cover letter with "Dear hiring manager." Try to avoid outdated or overly friendly salutations like "To Whom It May Concern" or "Hi." First paragraph

The first paragraph is where you can introduce yourself and express your excitement about applying for the position. Mention how you heard about the position because hiring managers use that information to target candidates for other positions. If someone working at the company or known to the hiring manager referred you to the position, mention their name in the first paragraph to stand out to the hiring manager. Your first paragraph should entice the reader to continue reading your cover letter, so try to be engaging and personable. You may also want to make a statement about being a helpful asset to the organization. Mention any shared values or goals that demonstrate that you're the right candidate for this position. Middle paragraphs

The middle paragraphs are where you can describe your experience and qualifications in more detail. This is where you provide evidence to support your claim that you are a good fit for the position and would be an asset to the organization. Consider what qualifications or skills the hiring manager mentioned in the job description, and highlight those in this section. You can have more than one middle paragraph but try not to have more than three. When describing your experience, make sure not to repeat the same information on your resume. To engage the reader more, try to expand upon the context of the accomplishments you are mentioning and how they showcase your skills. Relate the skills you have back to the position you're applying for to show that your experience has prepared you to succeed in this position. Conclusion

The last paragraph is the conclusion to your cover letter. You can use it to thank the reader for their time and consideration. The conclusion helps you finish your letter gracefully and provides any additional information the hiring manager may need to know. You can restate your interest in the position and how your goals align with the facilities. You can conclude your letter with a call to action, like asking them to call you to schedule an interview. You can also make a statement about the actions you are going to take after they receive your application, like making a follow-up call or reaching out to your reference at the company. Signature

The signature is the closing of your cover letter. Use a professional closing top to precede your signature. Here are some examples of professional closers you can use:

  • Include evidence: When describing your qualifications, provide statistical or numerical evidence to support your achievements, providing context the hiring manager can remember.
  • Format professionally: Choose a legible font and a black-and-white color scheme to maintain professionalism in your format.
